Freddy gave me Charlie's number a few nights ago, he was the bass player for The Manacled and a great friend. We hadn't spoken since 02'.

Something about getting married makes me reflective about my adolescence. We spoke for almost two hours. It was wonderful. Something about the 20 year mark is important, I guess.

Speaking of which, this is what many a hardcore fan has been wishing for for many a moon- this promises to be quite a gathering! Have been hearing rumblings about it for awhile!

Anywho- VERY SOON, Freddy, Daryl and I will be posting stuff for a series of blog posts and MySpace pages to celebrate and archive some of the ABC No Rio era stuff. I will post links here soon. It will be under the umbrella of "Fuck Rock- ABC No Rio Compilation 1991". Look for it!

We need and are interested in people's interviews, photos, original writing, flyers, fanzines, memories and help with this project. Please help if you can.

This will culminate with the releasing of a ton of unreleased tracks from a Abc comp. that was never released, released digitally PLUS an actual 7" of a band that Melissa York, Joe Martin, Jon Hiltz and I were in, called Antiem, and an unreleased Citizens Arrest song!

These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things...

Alright, alright, in between the virtuous summer that I have been having, which has included, but is not limited to, looking forward to the wedding, making music, trying to get sane with my food again and ENLARGING my Spiritual condition, I have been becoming fond of some fellow blogger's fantastic work!

Now I spent years buying my music from I-Tunes or eMusic, I had done Limewire and Napster on old PC's, but had hated the amount of guilt and speed that they supped from my hard drive and consciousness- but how was I to find all the music that I had lost to the ages, as well as my assorted addictions and asinine-ness?

I mean, c'mon people! Last night I found The Crumbsuckers, "Life of Dreams" LP!!

How many of my students had I chastised for "buying" their music exclusively from Limewire? Well, color me foolish, and allow me to collectively put a foot in my mouth! How can I rectify this downloading? Some of these bands have chosen to make their music available in this forum. Plus- I will support these acts (that still exist) by attending their shows, buying a T-shirt, etc.


I am truly flabbergasted at the levels of awesomeness that can be downloaded from some of these amazing blogs which cater to a few of my favorite genres of music-

It all started in early June, when while looking for better Salome pics then the one's I had taken on my cell phone, I stumbled across No Gods No Vegetables!

NGNV is chock full of awesome vinyl and newer release rips. Jack has a very varied taste that runs the gamut from straight crust to doom, to everything in between. He does show reviews, takes video, takes pictures, and seems like the kind of guy I would be if I could still drink and lived in the WB. lol. He runs a nice, down to Earth blog that is not unlike a beer soaked fanzine left on the top of the bar at the Sweetwater.

Then I discovered Stonerobixxx!

Stonerobixx has an amazingly authoritative anthology of everything you could ever possibly want to hear in the doom/stoner/sludge genre. It has helped me get turned on to some great older stuff, as well as some great new stuff. Thanks Robin! You rule!

Next I discovered the Sludge Swamp!


These guys also know how to bring the doom! Plus they throw in stoner stuff, punk, thrash, weird stuff, etc. I love it, I love it, I love it! (Wish they exchanged links!!- Hint, hint!)

Another great blog that has seriously helped my collection, especially insofar as reclaiming stuff that I used to have is True Punk and Metal!

Nate is good for out of print punk, hardcore and metal rarities. He seems like a cool ass bloke from up in the Albany area. Support this dude!

Vin!

Blogged and Quartered is the real deal like Holyfield! And I'm not just saying that for self serving reasons!

Vinny is a true archivist of this thing of ours and he does a bang up job of actually fixing up and repackaging a lot of the great old hardcore that he features! This is one class act!

Check out his blog and prepare to be blown away by some of the extensive tracks that he's assembled!

Another really great collection out there is Bloodjunkies!

This crazy German's blog is amazing because of the simple fact that he's got rips of everything from Project X to rare Misfits bootlegs. Great stuff that you could spend all night playing around on and reliving the good ol' days...

Calling this project, in part, "Ambien" is an obvious homage or allusion to Sleep. The Adrenylyn part will owe something to my hardcore heritage. We are incredibly excited to see where this goes...

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else and perhaps even their job.

So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track. Let's get behind her!!

My grandson likes Hershey's candy. It is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more. My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico now. I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything.

This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 6 light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off brand labeled,

"Everyday Value." I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value bran d was made in - get ready for this - the USA in a company in Cleveland, Ohio.

So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here.

So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets....yep, you guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada . The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA ! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!

So my challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address book so we can all star t buying American, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying from China ... Mexico ........(We should have awakened a decade ago......)

Let's get with the program.... help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the U.S.A. !!! It may be hard at first, but see what you can and are willing to do without to save those jobs.

Myself and Ben went to see Sonic Youth at the United theater, all the way the hell uptown. Expensive tickets, hot, lame sounding venue, way not intimate, seating, high ceilings- had a much better time the last two summers at McCarren Park Pool. However, it was worth it for Brother James and Tom Violence and, to a lesser extent, Sacred Trickster... Had to pay for parking- urg! Hope there's another show this summer!

Another big thingamabob this past week of leisure, reflection and recharging has been my kicking of my carb, sugar and flour problem- so far, so good! Feel much better and less befogged. Obviously! I'm not doing it alone, so that helps considerably- thanks to my black metal brotha in Austin, who is always there for me! He knows who he is!

Another exciting thing is all the ABC No Rio retrospective stuff that Fred Alva and I are going to start working on- I'll keep you posted. Freddy and Daryl from cXa are threatening to unearth the infamous Antiem track, along with some unreleased Citizens Arrest.

Antiem was a crust/sludge/doom joke band that Joe Martin, myself, Melissa York, Jon Hiltz and, I think, Charles Maggio did.
